Questions on Mint Linux-8

By: rekha singh | 08 Mar 2010 1:32 pm

Hi,

I am new to the Linux system. I loaded MintLinux-8 on a IBM A31P laptop. Is there a max limit for screen resolution(i.e.1280x1024) ?
When I started the laptop for the first time the default resolution was 1600x1200 and I was unable to set the background and read a pdf full screen.

I have never run mine above 1920 X 1080 on the main in a dual screen configuration with 1650 X 1050. Go to Menu->Administratio n->Hardware Drivers and see if there is a better driver for your machine.

I have ubuntu 9.10 installed on a IBM G41 which uses the 1600x1200 res. But I also have the option to go lower.
On the A31P with Mint I did not have that option but now  I can with ubuntu. Also use a wide screen monitor at 1280x960.

I have no idea what you guys are doing. I run mint 6, 7, & 8 and with all of them I have about 30 choices for screen resolution. I am running on a Dell Latitude D830 laptop. My options are everything from 1920 X 1080 down to 320 X 240. Mint inherits this from Ubuntu. They make no changes to it.
