Scan Modem

I already downloaded the scanmodem software to my 3.5 floppy and the instruction of what I have to enter into the command line. I plan to install this tonight.

 

I use an external US Robotics V.92 modem, which has built in software. Each time I restart my computer the modem flashes into XP. I wonder if that will also work the same way with Ubantu 9.04? (Ubantu is also installed into my HD).

 

My connection to the internet is by dialup when I use XP. At the moment I do not have all of the configurations from my ISP. But however just to explore even more, how could I use the modem through Ubantu to dial into a LAN or something other then the internet? My location is New York City.
